Miracles lie within!
Before I get into the impact of Amal totkay, I’d like to mention something which I will then relate to one of the tips. There exists a psychological phenomenon called ‘Stockholm Syndrome’. It is a response in the brain of the captives who develop a connection with their captors. We may call it ‘adjusting’. They start to adjust to what they perceive to be a ‘new reality’.
The first step of being a leader means to reflect and ponder that have we taken the responsibility for ourselves? Are we sincere towards ourselves? Are we fulfilling the obligations we have to ourselves?
Then we have to ask ourselves, have we developed a psychological understanding of our unproductive lifestyle? Are we a victim of Stockholm syndrome vis-a-vis ourselves?
Here comes the first step. Talk to yourself. Do not create a reality in which you have come to terms with ‘I cannot’ because you can always, in the right direction and passion, achieve what you must!
Are you wondering if I really know all this or am I just ranting? Well, back in 2013, I was a depressed teenager who had secluded himself because of insecurities and shattered expectations. I would do nothing all day except for watching movies and Hollywood serials. While doing that I came across a genre of history and politics. I would spend hours watching those and never get tired. I once watched a documentary on American politics for 4 hours straight. (I know, right!). Long story short, I immediately realized that if I ever do something, it will be this! So, there was this one catch though. I had stopped taking studies seriously since 8th grade probably and I had absolutely no idea what to do. Well, there was this urge in me to break this seclusion and go out there. It was hard but I did just that. I made a new friend, a brilliant young man named, Safdar, with whom I shared my problem. I have no idea how I can thank him because I feel words don’t suffice for what he did for me. He took me to his college the next day, introduced me to the coordinator, and made me fill out the admission form. I was RESTARTING my academic journey!!!
This was 2014, now this is 2020, obstacles came and went. The path was abruptly interrupted many times. But I know I have come a long way and with dedication and hard work, I will get to the place where I want to be!
What is it that we can deduce from this story of mine?
1) I got out of my comfort zone.
2) I talked to myself.
3) I asked for help.
4) I created new habits when I went back to college and graduated with a higher percentage than I had in matric. In university, my performance is better than it ever was in school and college.
I realized after coming across these tips from Amal that these are the things that happened subconsciously in my life and Amal is doing it for thousands of other kids who are not as fortunate to realize all this themselves. I feel like this is a reminder to me that you have to keep up and keep upgrading what you already know, push yourself to do more, and challenge yourself every day. Do not get comfortable with a particular level of achievement. Lastly, with all these Amal totkay, you will uncover the Miracles that lie within!
